Upcoming Events

The Seattle chapter of Deep Green Resistance holds regular events and meetings. Most of our meetings are for members only. If you’re interested in joining, please contact us. We do hold public events in and around Seattle. Visit our Facebook Page for a list of any upcoming events. Supplies for Unist'ot'en Resistance Camp

About the Unist’ot’en Camp The Unist’ot’en Camp is an indigenous resistance community whose purpose is to protect sovereign Wet’suwet’en territory from several proposed pipelines from the Tar Sands Gigaproject and shale gas from Hydraulic Fracturing Projects in the Peace River Region. The camp is led and organized by members of Wet-suwet’en First Nation in so-called “British Columbia”. The camp is located at the shore of the Wedzin Kwah and mouth of the Gosnell Creek. These are all tributary to the the Skeena, Bulkley, and Babine Rivers. The proposed pipelines from Enbridge Northern Gateway and Pacific Trails both seek to cross the rivers at the exact point where the resistance camp is built on the Unis’tot’en Territory of Talbits Kwah. ...

Action

The Seattle chapter of Deep Green Resistance is organizing on-the-ground to support various struggles for justice (including anti-racism, feminist issues, immigrant struggles, environmental justice issues, and more). Contact us to get involved. Excerpted from Chapter 6 of the book Deep Green Resistance: Strategy to Save The Planet Now, when I talk about a resistance, I am talking about an organized political resistance. I’m not just talking about something that comes and something that goes. I’m not talking about a feeling. I’m not talking about having in your heart the way things should be and going through a regular day having good, decent, wonderful ideas in your heart. I’m talking about when you put your body and your mind on the line and commit yourself to years of struggle in order to change the society in which you live. This does not mean just changing the men whom you know so that their manners will get better–although that wouldn’t be bad either… But that’s not what a political resistance is. A political resistance goes on day and night, under cover and over ground, where people can see it and where people can’t. It is passed from generation to generation. It is taught. It is encouraged. It is celebrated. It is smart. It is savvy. It is committed. And someday it will win. It will win. —Andrea Dworkin ...

Premises

From the book Endgame by Derrick Jensen Premise One: Civilization is not and can never be sustainable. This is especially true for industrial civilization. Premise Two: Traditional communities do not often voluntarily give up or sell the resources on which their communities are based until their communities have been destroyed. They also do not willingly allow their landbases to be damaged so that other resources—gold, oil, and so on—can be extracted. It follows that those who want the resources will do what they can to destroy traditional communities. ...
